When you have a child just growing up, it’s very easy to get them to come to you – just say come and take – initially you may not have to add biscuit at the end of the statement but after sometime you may not only have to show it in words but also in object then you know the child is coming of age and of course you’ll have to stop that tactics and go back to the drawing board.
There is no point listing all the ‘biscuits’ that the APC dangled in front of us three years ago, I guess we all remember them besides there is no point adding to misery, at least that’s not my aim because most of us in silence have outgrown that ‘childish’ stage which has now added to our wisdom.
A promise is only as good as the person making it. And that is why it beat my imagination when I saw people saying ‘yes we need uninterrupted power supply’, ‘we need good roads’, ‘our fuel should be N45’ (abeg) and they trust someone to deliver these without cross checking track records but I guess it’s only once bitten before been twice shy and our President doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo.
Recently PMB promised not to rest till all 110 Dapchi school girls are rescued, let’s believe the newly launched drones commissioned by his excellency himself will do for him what it couldn’t do few hours after the girls were abducted because it doesn’t make much sense negotiating, paying dollars and pounds, releasing more commanders to terrorize you and then the number of girls released are recaptured in another state without the return of the money or commanders – who is fooling who?
If the President doesn’t realize that the ‘children’ are now grown, then maybe the children are not the ones not doing the growing up otherwise we expect concreate explanations why the pre electoral promises are not one-bit progressing towards fulfilment instead of living in denial with talks of ‘even the worst critics of my government can attest to the fact that….” Just say “based on one or two things we had to concentrate on some other things” and maybe by doing so a few of them might even vote for you next year so you can finish up instead of going to look for votes in Ghana.
